"The broad masses of the peasants, under the brilliant leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and Chairman Mao, take up arms and surge forward on the road of revolution, resolved to smash the man-eating system."

And so our tour ends on a happy note, with the rebellious peasants overthrowing their oppressors and poised to march into a new future.  The strong, confident soldiers in this scene hardly resemble the cowering, fearful figures early in the exhibit.  The text for these final figures encompasses the dilemma of Mao's Cultural Revolution:  he was attacking bureaucrats of the Chinese Communist Party for having become "bourgeois," but yet at the same time he remained closely tied to and associated with that same Communist Party which only two decades beforehand he had led to power.
