James Madison University
|
Instructions: This is NOT an assignment that needs to be turned in.
We will go over the tree structures for these sentences in class on
Thursday, 4/9. [If you'd also like to practice building the grammar
rules, etc... for these trees, use the LLAMA Syntax windows in Assignment
8 (i.e., use the simple parser; there should be no need to use
the full parser which searches for all possible parses for a sentence...)]
Sentences with subordinate conjunctions:
- While the band played, the crowd cheered.
- The elephant stamped its feet because it wanted peanuts.
- The game continues until somebody wins the prize.
- If this is love, I have made a terrible mistake.
Sentences with verbs that take sentences as arguments:
- The scientists thought that the moon heated the sun.
- The suspect denied that he knew the victim.
- I wonder if you can tell that I can hear you.
- Simon said that we should shake our heads and spin our arms.
- I can see that the parents believe that the circus will know that
the children are hoping that the clown will have balloons.
A mix:
- When we arrived at the dinner party, the host noticed that we
were carrying wine and flowers.
