• Find the subject (just the core word that meets a subject criterion) and just the main verb in each of the following sentences from Emery Exercise One: 1, 3-5 (hint-- ex. 4 is passive), 7, 9 (hint -- imperative),10, 14, 16, 18, and 20 (hint - the real subject of this one isn't where you expect because of the "expletive there".
• For each example, also state whether you think the verb is dynamic (describing an action or event) or stative (describing a state).
• Finally, for examples 1 and 10 only, write down your best educated guess about which of the three sentence patterns (the three we briefly introduced in class on 9/2) each sentence conforms to -- SV, SVO, or SVC.
