- Do Exercise 9 on page 142 of your textbook.
- Re-read the textbook's discussion of prepositions and particles and your class notes on these word classes, and then attempt to underline all the prepositions (and not any particles) in the following sentence:
The bearded lady from the local circus down the road looked at her diary and blotted out the name of the man who had turned her marriage proposal down.
- Do exercise 13 on page 159 in your text.
- (Optional --We haven't yet discussed conjunctions but you can look at the discussion in the text to try this and get some preparation for Monday's discussion!) Re-write the following two sentences as one sentence making use of a subordinate conjunction. Underline the
subordinate conjunction.
The lion spared the mouse's life. The mouse helped the lion escape.
