LLAMA Syntax Help:
Using the Lexicon Editor
The Lexicon Editor looks something like the following (the exact look
and feel of the Lexicon Editor may vary from computer to computer):
At the top of the Lexicon Editor are the Delete and Edit buttons.
Just below them is the Pick List, below that are the Word Entry Field
and the Category Entry Field, and at the bottom is the Add button.
Adding Lexicon Entries
To add an item to the lexicon, you simply type the word in the Word Entry
Field, type the category of that word in the Category Entry Field, and
click on the Add button. You can add bar levels to a category in the Category Field
using the up arrow key and subtract them with the down arrow key (just as you can in the
Category Editor).
Since you can only add one item to the lexicon at a time, you can't type
spaces in either the Word Entry Field or the Category Entry Field.
You can delete the character to the left of the cursor in both Entry
Fields using the Backspace key. The Delete key deletes the character to the
right of the cursor.
Deleting Lexicon Entries
To delete an item in the lexicon, first select it (from the Pick List)
by clicking on it once. This will highlight the selected item.
Then, click on the Delete button once. (The next item in the lexicon
will then be highlighted.)
Editing Lexicon Entries
To edit an item in the lexicon, first select it (from the Pick List)
by clicking on it once. This will highlight the selected item. Then,
click on the Edit button once. This will remove the item from the
lexicon and place its word in the Word Entry Field and its category
in the Category Entry Field. You can then make whatever changes you
would like. When you are done making the changes, click on the Add
button to put the edited item back in the lexicon.
Tips and Tricks
Here are a couple of tips that will help you make better use of the
Lexicon Editor:
- The Tab key will move you back and forth between the Word Entry Field,
the Category Entry Field and the Add button. (Shift-Tab will move you
the other way.)
- You can delete the contents of either Entry Field by double-clicking
in it with your mouse.
- Sometimes there are restrictions on the Categories that you can use.
In these cases, invalid Categories will be shown in purple. You
will not be able to add words with invalid Categories to the lexicon. But if
the Category Editor is enabled, you can add categories there and then use them
in the lexicon.
