Using Majordomo

For a very good majordomo tutorial for the novice, read Majordomo Newsletters for the Novice. For more in-depth information, read the Majordomo Listowner's Guide. The following are useful subsections from the Majordomo Listowner's Guide.

Majordomo for Subscribers is a description of commands that anyone who is subscribed to a majordomo list can use. The commands in the Majordomo Listowner's Guide are only for use by a listowner, not subscribers.

Getting Word Out About Your E-Mail List

Place an announcement on New-List, an e-mail list devoted to announcing and publishing information about new lists. To subscribe to New-List, send an e-mail message to info@vm1.nodak.edu. In the body of the note, type: subscribe first_name last_name, replacing first_name and last_name with your own first and last name.

Register your e-mail discussion list at the following sites:

• LIZST list of e-mail discussion lists
• The Internet Mailing List Navigator Submission--This information is then published in the book Internet Mailing List Navigator.
• FindMail. This site will archive your mailing list and make it publicly available.

Of course, include a subscription form on your web site, and use strategies we have talked about previously to drive traffic to your site.
