My research interests have evolved from two primary areas: (1) identifying and visualizing the distribution of severe thunderstorm-produced windstorms known as derechos, and (2) understanding complex feedbacks between atmospheric processes (particularly thunderstorms and lightning) and human-induced changes in land cover. My career research, teaching and public-outreach contributions aim to improve the prediction of derechos, lightning, and their parent thunderstorms; mitigate their overall impacts on life and property; and inspire others to further advance our understanding of severe weather through utilizing innovative methodologies.
