Mathematics 306, Principles of Analysis
Preliminary course outline
Prerequisite: Math 107-108
Concepts of sequences, limits, continuity, differential and integral calculus with an emphasis on the role of calculus in problem solving.
Outline:
1. Historical perspective
2. Sequences, discrete calculus, and difference equations
3. The derivative (motion, rates of change, optimization)
4. The integral (accumulation and area, numerical background, fundamental theorem of calculus)
5. Concepts of differential equations and applications (harmonic motion, exponential growth, dynamical systems)
