Introduction to Linguistics - Assignment 12
James Madison University
|
[This assignment will be marked only as an acceptable or unacceptable
effort, but you must do all parts of the assignment.]
- Do exercise (4) on pages 266-167 of our text. This is
practice with determining the difference between allophones of one phoneme
and distinct phonemes. It therefore is data from another language
(specifically, Korean).
- Do exercise (8) on pages 268-269 of our text. Notice
that this data deals with just some particular dialects of English, which
produce a diphthong vowel sound we haven't described. You should be able
to figure the sound out from the way it is transcribed. Does this data
match what you do?
- Finally, do exercise 13 (just examples a-f) on page
271.
