1. Do Exercise 1 (just A through C) at the back of the semantics chapter (Chapter 4) in your text.
2. Do Exercise 9 (a through h), noting that for (h) you will need to look at the different kinds of antonyms discussed in the text.
3. Attempt each of the following exercises, based on the text's discussion of the stated semantic issue (part of what we will discuss in our next class. :) )
   
   • exercise 14 (just a-f)-- look up the discussion of the meanings of the different thematic roles
   • exercise 17 (just a-h) - refer to the text's discussion of performative sentences on pp.s 215-216, if needed.
