- Map each syllable in the following three words into their syllable structure (ie. its onset -- when applicable, its nucleus, and its coda - when applicable):
free, unclaimed, prescreening.
(Remember that syllable structure is based on sound, not spelling!)
- Ask your parents (or any older adults you know well) what expressions, if any, they hear you use that they do not use.
- Ask any two friends what their favorite native English dialect is, if any.
- List at least one word or expression from your own dialect that you know is not used by all American English speakers.
- List at least one word or expression that you know some English speakers use but that you don't use.
