Introduction to Linguistics - Assignment 3
James Madison University
|
[This assignment will be marked only as an acceptable or unacceptable effort.]
- Do Exercise 2, but just examples a. through l., at the back of Chapter 2 in our textbook.
- Attempt Exercise 4 from the same chapter as well. If needed, review, the following distinctions in the textbook
between different types of morphemes: root vs affix, prefix vs suffix, bound vs free, and inflectional vs derivational
(hint: For this last distinction there is an actual list in the text of the 8 morphemes that are the only inflectional affixes in English) NOTE: This exercise has a typo in the
current textbook edition. You can find a corrected version at this link
- Use this link to download and print out a very small data sample for another language, Turkish. Answer the basic morphological analysis questions
included with that data: Turkish Data and Questions
- Attempt just part (a.) of exercise 13 in this chapter. If you don't think you know a word containing a particular root, ask a friend and see if he/she can come up with one! :)
