  1. In the discussion of truth-conditional semantics at the start of Chapter 4, what term is introduced to describe sentences like "When everything is said or done, there's nothing left to say or do."
  2. Do Exercise 5 in Chapter 4 (Just do e,f,g, and h in Part One and c,d, and h in Part Two)
  3. Do Exercise 1 in Chapter 4 (just parts a, b, and c) to practice using Semantic Rule 1 (where the output of the rule is True or False) and Semantic Rule 2 (where output is a set). (Note that a new handout on CANVAS entitled "semantic terms and concepts" has a section on semantic rules that might help you with these questions.)
  4. Give at least two entailments for the following sentence, one a lexical entailment and one a structural entailment (labeled as such):
  5. According to our textbook, what are the different types of phenomena that happen "when compositionality goes awry?" (pp. 141-146). Give your own example of just one of these (made up by you or just noticed in some other context. :) )
  6. Moving on to lexical semantices --according to our textbook, what are three different types of antonyms? (See the section on Lexical Relations.)
