- Describe, as best you can, the basic characteristic(s) of the six different MANNERS of articulation for English consonants: Stops, Fricatives, Affricates, Nasals, Glides, and Liquids. (The last two might be hard to distinguish frome ach other. :) )
- Make a COMPLETED copy of just the vowel chart in Chapter 2. (If you'd like a clean copy of the blank charts handed out in class, you can find a file called "Blank Phonetics Charts" under FILES on CANVAS.)
- What three vowel symbols are missing from the vowel chart in our textbook (but described in the text), and what is special about the three vowel sounds they represent?
- Using your textbook's consonant chart to help, attempt to transcribe (ie., to give the IPA symbol for) just the first sound in each of the following words:
