Speculative Fiction & Poetry--Assignment 10

James Madison University
|
Instructions: Please type your initial commentary for submission. It should be at least a paragraph or two. Your question/quote can be handwritten or typed on the bottom/back of the same page or on another full-sized sheet of paper. Remember to include your name at the top of the assignment. Multiple pages should be stapled together.
- For this Initial Commentary, find a "poetic" section of from the portion of the novel The Road assigned for our 2/19 class meeting. Your excerpt should be at least several lines but needn't be longer than a paragraph. It also may be several lines that are not quite continous in the text (but close, say, in the same paragraph). Describe what makes your chosen excerpt poetic. Characterize whatever features of sound, page formation, language structure (patterns and unusual stuctures) figuratiive language, repetition, illusive/ambiguous meanings, etc you see that might justify calling the section poetic. You might assess too whether you think it is best to consider this as poetic prose or as poetry. Consider also whether or not your chosen section seems at all to come together as something that might conceivably be read as a single complete, cohesive poem.
