  1. Diagram each of the following sentences:
    1. That nobody is home seems unlikely.
    2. The frog asked whether any of us would kiss him.
    3. Finally, the incompetent landscapers did become aware of the fact that the weather in Virginia is unpredictable.
    4. The butterfly was quite devastated that it could not make butter.
    5. The gladiator's certainty that he could defeat all challengers was getting tiresome.
    6. We suggested that someone should be writing down our ideas because they could save the world. (FYI, there is a structural ambiguity here, but you only have to choose one of the two possibilities to diagram. :) )
    7. For a lion to love a mouse would be wierd.
    8. I should never have hoped for my horse to win the race.

One of the following sentences is an extraposition (E), one has an extraposition as part of it (EI), one is an ordinary sentence with a meaningful "it" pronoun (O), and one has a "filler-it" like the extraposition but is a different type of transformed sentence that we have not yet named (X). Label which one is which and write a sentence explaining how you know:

In which sentences are those clauses noun complements (NC) (i.e, whole, normal-looking S-bars coming after the kinds of nouns that can have noun complements) and in which are they something somewhat different (Other)?
