  1. Re-write the following two sentences as one sentence making use of a subordinate conjunction. Underline the subordinate conjunction.
    The lion spared the mouse's life. The mouse helped the lion escape.
  2. The following example contains either a subordinate conjunction or a discourse connective. Underline the relevant word and state which it is: "I certainly will try to cook us something for dinner; however, I make no promises about the results.
  3. One of the two sentences below contains a demonstrative determiner, and the other contains a demonstrative pronoun. Which is which?
    1. I have never seen anything like that! ________________
    2. I think this flower is an orchid. ____________________
  4. What is the third person singular masculine object pronoun in English? _________________
  5. What is the antecedent of the pronoun "her" in the following sentence?
    My friend moved from Virginia to New York, but I still keep in touch with her. ________________
  6. On page 142, Do exercise 9A with the following slight change in the instructions: in each example just label the italicized word, based on its use in that sentence, as a gerund, an adjective, or OTHER (which will include normal uses of verbs in sentences and special verbal participle uses).
  7. Do Exercise 10B, numbers 1 and 2 only (page 147).
