- Do exercise 6 on page 130 in your text.
- Do just parts 1 and 2 of exercise 7 on page 131 in your text, but also give reasons for each of your answers. The also do the same for ALL the words in the following sentence:
Undoubtedly, very expensive taste and empty pockets create money woes.
- Re-write the following two sentences as one sentence making use of a subordinate conjunction. Underline the subordinate conjunction.
The lion spared the mouse's life. The mouse helped the lion escape.
- On page 142, Do exercise 9A with the following slight change in the instructions: in each example just label the italicized word, based on its use in that sentence, as a gerund, an adjective, or OTHER. (In other words, at this point in the semester, you don't need to be able to distinguish ordinary uses of verbs in sentences from special verbal "participle" uses.)
- One of the two sentences below contains the determiner "that", and the other contains the pronoun "that." Which is which?
