After reading the excerpt from "On the Conflict Between Realism and Art" by Guy de Maupassant (available on Blackboard in course documents), type up your 1-2 page treatment of the following:
How might attempts to define and characterize speculative fiction genres intersect with de Maupassant's argument about realism and art? You should reflect carefully both on the general idea of speculative fiction and the genre of magical realism in particular, using one of the magical realist short stories we've read as an example. (Note that definitions of magical realism are also available in the documents folder on Blackboard.)
