Great Works - Assignment 5

James Madison University

Instructions:(This will be graded only as an acceptable or unacceptable effort. One of the goals of this exercise is to have you think about HOW an author adds or leaves out details and structures a text to guide readers to particular conclusions or to leave readers with intentionally unanswered questions.
When you finished reading Ray Bradbury's short story "The Small Assassin," were you convinced that the baby is a killer? Do you think Ray Bradbury wanted you to be convinced? Write just a couple paragraphs either describing and explaining details in the story that you think were meant to convince you that the baby is a killer OR describing and explaining evidence in the story (or elements perhaps intentionaly left out of the story) that you think were meant to leave you feeling that the baby may not really be a killer. Try to use specific evidence that shows you read the story carefully.
