OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this course is to provide
students with a study
of
Italian cinema from the times of Neorealism, which began in 1945,
to the
present. Through the vision of movies
students will be
introduced to Italian culture, socio-economic conditions, political
philosophies, history, and the transformation of the of Italian society
through the years following the end of World War II.

MATERIAL: Videos from the J.M.U. library, the Foreign Languages
Lab, or other
sources.
EVALUATION: One mid-term test (20%), one final exam (not
comprehensive)(20%),
a term paper (30%), one critique due
each week of the movie seen in
class (20%), contribution to the
discussions (10%).
GRADING SYSTEM:
A 94 and above C 74 – 76
A- 90 – 93 C- 70 – 73
B+ 87 – 89 D+ 65 – 69
B 84 – 86 D 60 – 64
B- 80 – 83 F less than 60
C+ 77 – 79
IMPORTANT: Class attendance is required and each member
of the class will be
expected to participate regularly in the
discussions. If for some unexpected reason you should miss class once during
the semester, you must view the movie on your own in the library or in the lab.
