Required Excel Homework #2

due Friday, June 6, noon

(A) Select any valid data set(s), containing at least 10 BIVARIATE observations, from the textbook to do the following:

(1) Construct a scatter plot. Make sure that your choice of "x" and "y" is consistent with parts (3) and (4) below.

(2) For each of your two variables, compute the sample mean, sample median, sample standard deviation, sample variance, and sample range, using Excel.

(3) Determine the slope of the fitted regression line, using Excel.

(4) Determine the intercept of the fitted regression line, using Excel.

(5) Determine the sample correlation, using Excel.

(6) Determine the proportional reduction in error, using Excel.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

(B) Clearly state the data set you used in part (A); e.g., exercise number and page number from the textbook.

(C) Label each of your statistics from part (A); i.e., mean, median, standard deviation, variance, range, slope, intercept, correlation, proportional reduction in error.

(D) In your output, use Excel to write your name.

(E) Although you are allowed to receive help from others, list the names of those who helped you and the names of those whom you helped, as well as what type of help was given. If you did not give or receive help, then write "No help."
