Required SPSS Homework #5

due Tuesday, April 23, noon

(A) Use SPSS with all 27 observations from exercise #3.2.48 on p. 128 to do the following:

(1) Enter the numerical data and label the variable as NumBrew. Using a computer screenshot, list this dataset (in your online output) regarding number of breweries, although you do NOT need to list the states.

(2) Using SPSS, compute the sample mean ( X ), sample median, sample standard deviation ( s ), sample variance ( s 2 ), sample range, and interquartile range. Using a computer screenshot, highlight each of these six statistics in YELLOW. (Do NOT highlight any additional statistics. Do NOT highlight an entire SPSS chart of statistics.)

(B) Use SPSS with the numerical data from exercise #11.2.23 on p. 527 to do the following:

(1) Label the x-variable as Height and the y-variable as Weight. Using a computer screenshot, list this dataset in your online output.

(2) Using SPSS, construct a scatterplot of the data, with the fitted linear regression line superimposed, and display using a computer screenshot.

(3) Using SPSS, determine the slope and intercept of the fitted linear regression line. Using a computer screenshot, highlight the slope in YELLOW and the intercept in PINK. Do NOT reverse these colors!

(4) Using SPSS, determine the sample correlation ( r ) and the coefficient of determination ( r 2 ), which is the fraction of the variation in the values of y that is explained by the least-squares regression of y on x. Using a computer screenshot, highlight the sample correlation ( r ) in PINK and the coefficient of determination ( r 2 ) in GREEN. Do NOT reverse these colors!

(C) Final format:

(1) Write your name and JMU email address at the top of your output.

(2) Although you are allowed to receive help from others, list in parentheses the names of those who helped you and the names of those whom you helped, as well as what type of help was given. If you did not give or receive help, then write "No help" next to your name.

(3) WARNING: Sharing ELECTRONIC copies of SPSS homework in part or in full is a university honor code violation.

(4) Turn in all appropriate output from SPSS in the order in which the exercises are assigned.

(5) Label your output as parts C1, C2, A1, A2, B1, B2, B3, B4 in BLUE.

(6) Avoid losing points due to sloppiness: Do NOT include extra junk; e.g., unrequested tables from SPSS.

(7) Post your homework as ONLY ONE .pdf file to Canvas. Do NOT email me your homework.
