The list below summarizes major team activities. A blog of the technical team activities, related to building of the electric-assisted bicycles, is updated at the JMU Alternative Fuel Vehicle Laboratory website.

Current or Completed Activities

  • Febrary 2009
    • VA Standards of Learning identified by Lianne Loizou.
    • Competition manual draft begins including sample math component problems and electric-bicycle description.
  • January 2009 : Paper summarizing the survey design and results is completed by Margaret Beckom. Survey Results Paper PDF.
  • December 2008: Poster of survey results is completed by Margaret Beckom. Survey Results Poster PDF.
  • November 2008  
    • Horsepower testing of the first electric-assisted bicycle.
    • Preliminary results of the survey announced.
  • October 2008
    • Analysis of survey begins.
    • Initial pair of electric-assisted bicycle kits is ordered.
    • Poster presentation at CISAT Research Day. Poster PDF.
  • September 2008
    • Survey is sent out to JMU students.
    • Survey is finalized and submitted for IRB approval.
    • Initial set of bicycles obtained from Surplus. Basic bicycle maintenance training commences.
    • Tool training in the AFV lab for technical team and others.
    • Survey is approved by IRB and sent to JMU students.
  • August 2008
    • Safety Training in the AFV lab for technical team.
    • Kick Off meeting for entire team.
    • Independent study student begins work on designing survey.
  • July 2008: Blanket approval from the IRB obtained for survey of JMU students.
