Accurate Motion Capture With Vive Trackers
I need a motion capture solution for ChemSim-VR development. The product design stipulates mocap animations of chemistry instructors demonstrating fundamental concepts to students. The other day I was talking with some researchers about mocap for creating VR simulations of common procedures in an NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Later I wrote a short paper about motion capture for eduction and training.
This morning I learned a robust inertial mocap system has emerged using off-the-shelf Vive hardware including the standard headset, hand controllers, and six of the new Vive Trackers shown at C.E.S. in January. A YouTube video demonstrates it well. The technique moves motion capture outside of expensive, dedicated studios making it accessible anywhere it's needed for the price of an HTC Vive and six Vive Trackers. I'm looking forward to trying it out.
