Linguistic Approaches to Literature - Assignment 4
James Madison University

Instructions: This assignment involves hunting for language "in the wild." :) [This assignment will be marked only as an acceptable or unacceptable effort.]
- Turner's use of the term "parable" includes any communication that projects one story onto another one, and he argues that parables are fundamental to human thought. Paying close attention to the conversations around you and/or to the written word everywhere you read it, find just one good linguistic example of such a "parable." Write it down (if you don't remember all the exact words and paraphrase a little bit, that's okay!) and explain the context. More specifically, say what other "story" it is being projected onto. Also, if the source story is somewhat "implicit" (as in a proverb), add your own brief description.
