Tennis dates back to 12th century France when it was played in the form of a handball game called ‘paume’ or palm. The game involved hitting a ball back and forth by hand. In time, a black leather glove was used and then from there a handle was added to the glove, which formed the first racquet.
The game was originally played by monks as a form of entertainment during ceremonial occasions. Monks all over Europe enjoyed playing the game of “jeu de Paume” during the 14th century. Over time, the game spread and evolved throughout Europe and beyond.

Playing sports is beneficial for kids in many ways. Not only is it good for their health, but it helps build their social skills and adds structure to their days, as routines are good for children. I believe that tennis is especially good for kids' social skills. Due to the fact that there is no referee in tennis, the players must use their own judgement to call the ball in or out. The player has to be confident in that call, and if you believe that your opponent may be lying, then you have to be confident and confront your opponent. Tennis also has a certain etiquette. The players are supposed to show good sportsmanship and always shake hands at the end of the match. It is also common to see opponents complimenting each other and giving their racket a little clap when their opponent has a nice hit.
Here are some people I probably would have never met if it weren't for tennis.
