Appletalk

Appletalk is Apple's networking protocol that allows
Macs to share files and printers over a network. It
can be used over ethernet, or through the printer port
(also known as a localtalk port) of a Mac. We use it over
ethernet at JMU. Most Macs that print to network printers
use Appletalk to communicate, so the Appletalk control panel
must be set to Ethernet for this to work.

If a Mac does not have an Appletalk control panel, it is using
an older set of networking control panels known as "Classic
Networking". In this case, you can set Appletalk to ethernet
(Ethertalk) by using the "Network" control panel.
