Here again the sense of oppression and suffering is readily apparent.  A woman leans against the bars with her children on the other side.  The prisoner being carried in is clearly in no state to pay his taxes.  The text for this scene, moreover, mentions for the first time the Communist Party's rival party in the civil war of the pre-Revolution days, the Kuomintang or Nationalist Party of Chiang Kai-shek.
