Midwest native Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) arrives in 1922 New York in search of the American dream. Read Analysis.While Baz Luhrmann's 2013 adaptation of The Great Gatsby does not make the list, I can still agree with some of what the Shortlist Team has on this list. I will say it's ironic that not many modern adaptations have made the list, I suppose the glitz and glamor of today's Hollywood got in the way of the filmmaking that once was.
