Alex Bay started out as a painter, but now builds large, often interactive, sculptures in his shop on his farm in the Virginia Piedmont. He uses steel, wood, fiberglass, sound and video to create constructions that tug at the emotions. Bay believes he has a strong love for what is often considered ugly, tawdry or just ordinary, but that positioned properly in a matrix of form, sound and color, the art can be successful.
