GARY FREEBURG
Gary Freeburg has been a photographer for 40 years. He holds a BFA and a MA in photography and drawing from Minnesota State University Mankato, and a MFA in photography from the University of Iowa. He worked with renowned photographers and educators; Oliver Gagliani 1975, Ansel Adams 1975, and John Schultz 1978. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after completing six years of service including two tours of duty in the Vietnam War,1969-1975. For 22 years, he lived and worked in Alaska as a Professor of Art at the University of Alaska, Kenai Peninsula College where he directed the art program and curated 153 exhibitions in the campus art gallery that now bears his name. He has given 90 lectures at community, statewide and national venues with the most recent being, The Artist and The Wilderness, 2010.
He is currently the Director of the Sawhill Gallery at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA. |
