Outreach- Expanding Your Horizons
I love getting young women excited about math and science, so I am involved in JMU's Expanding Your Horizons conference
as the Volunteer Coordinator. In 2016 we had over 180 young women
participating and more than 80 JMU volunteers helping us out! It
was a great success. If you live near Harrisonburg and know a young woman in grades 6-10, please share the link
or check us out on Facebook!

MD-DC-VA IBL Consortium
I
am one of the originating members/organizers of the MD-DC-VA IBL
Consortium, a group supporting IBL in the MD-DC-VA Section of the
MAA. You can check out our website, and we'd love to see you
at one of our events at the MD-DC-VA Section Meetings!
JMU Math and Stats Colloquium
I currently serve as a member of the JMU Department of Mathematics and
Statistics Colloquium Committee. We host a weekly colloquium series
targeted at our undergraduate students, and attended by both math
majors and our varied faculty. If you are going to be nearby
Harrisonburg and would like to speak, let me know! Check out our current schedule.
Assessment (FAAT)
As
part
of Project NExT, I helped co-organize a panel on Alternative Assessment
Techniques at the Joint Meetings in San Diego in January 2013. We
organized MAA Contributed Paper Sessions on the same topic at
the JMM 2014 in Baltimore and at JMM 2016 in Seattle!
Check out the Alternative Assessment page for slides, resources, and a list of speakers.
The
Silver12 Alternative Assessment team has now joined forces with the Formative
Assessment team made up of Gold14 dots (which means we're now the
Formative and Alternative Assessment Team, or FAAT for short) and have
plans to run minicourses, workshops, and contributed paper sessions at
future MathFests!
