The third annual
SUMS
conference was held on Saturday, October 13, 2007. Approximately 250
people from
thirteen states and the District of Columbia participated in SUMS.
Students gave twenty-eight contributed talks and presented thirty-two
posters
on a variety of
mathematical and statistical topics.
SUMS at JMU
is an annual one day conference promoting
undergraduate research in mathematics, statistics, and their
applications. The
conference features contributed undergraduate
research talks, invited talks aimed at a general undergraduate math
audience, a poster session, graduate school, research, and math careers
panels,
and a math competition workshop for high school students. Anyone
who has done original research in
mathematics
or statistics
while an undergraduate is invited to contribute a 15 minute
talk about his or her research. Undergraduate and high school students
are invited to present research or expository posters on any
mathematical
topic. A short article about this year's conference appeared in
the online edition of the Madison Scholar
