The road from the auxiliary site to the main site is fairly crude. The elevation changes from 2343 feet to 2720 feet in about a quarter mile (as the crow flies).

At places the slope approaches 37 degrees. The original road (fondly known as "The Ski Slope") was closer to 45 degrees, and was almost impossible to walk down without slipping at least once.

To get around the original slope, a switchback was installed which required a bit of blasting. The rock is sandstone, perhaps of the Oswego series. Rock at the the upper site is Tuscarora quartzite.
