Fulks Run, Virginia: Where the river is clean and there's chicken on the grill!

DragonInnards: Ready to Close the Beast

This guitar and these pages under construction. Please return to see what the finished instrument really looks like. Here, you will see things that don't look very good...yet...especially if you have never seen a dragon or other guitar under construction.

DragonInnards: The major components are ready to "box up." The back will be glued to the sides and DragonHart will be ready for external fixin's. This is the final view before closing.
The inside of the back is ready, complete with label that few will ever see. Includes spruce reinforcements to the center seam and pads for the tail piece posts to "stand on." See more in the pics below.

There's lots of detail inside the dragon. On center line from top of picture to bottom we have structural pieces including the tail block, two tail piece posts, holes for the bridge, pick up mounting blocks and the footer. Tail block, corner blocks, posts and pick up mounting blocks are made from hard maple. Posts and pick up mounts are inlaid into the underside of the top. Bigsby B5 tremolo will sit "on top" of the tail piece blocks for firm separation from bridge. Tentelones join the top to the sides. Linings are ready to join the back to the sides. Reinforcements at soundholes and jack hole. Reinforcements behind wormy side wood. The tail piece posts hold the string tension through to the back and prevent the action of the Bigsby tremolo from crushing the top.
Soon, this signature will be seen with only a mirror or tiny camera. Note linings are mortised into the corner blocks, footer and tail block. P-90 Soapbar pickups will mount to maple blocks. Maple blocks are inlaid into the underside of the top. Spruce cleat reinforces soundhole to prevent fracture. Tentelones are fastened with hide glue one at a time. Hide glue is great for jobs requiring quick tacking for small items.
The back is fit onto the top and ready to glue. Spool clamps are preset to facilitate quick glue up. Spools have cam action, rotating on off-center holes and tightened with wing nuts. Carving cradle in background holds top and back. Both of these molds will soon be retired for the duration of DragonHart' construction.
